Open Source Software (OSS)

Open Source Software:

Open Source Software's are the software's that are made to be available to everyone on any operating system. The operating systems - Linux, which is an Open Source OS is always free. It is accessible by everyone - rich and the poor. Hello, I am Anirudh Raju and I am going to explain what is Open Source Software and Organisation and it's importance with examples.

OSS is made available with a license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to learn, code and study. It also refers to something that the people can modify. It is hosted by many organisations like AOSSIE, BRL-CAD, FOSSASSIA, Apertium, Catrobat and etc. largely contribute to Open Source by participating actively every year in many Open Source contribution events like Google Summer Of Code & Google Code-In.

What is Open Source Organisation?

An Open Source Organisation is an organisation that provides the Open Source Software and allows people to edit in communities. They are always Non-Profit and Charitable Organisations. They provide organisational, legal and financial support to the software. The organisations have a large community providing the user to be free to edit the software.

Why you need to choose Open Source Software:

1) Security : Open Source Software's guarantee's security and virus free state at any point of time.
2) Quality  : A software created by more than thousands of developers is obviously expected to be      better and it is.
3) Customisation : All OSS's can be customised upon user's wish.
4) Preview: All OSS's can be previewed before they are downloaded for use.
5) Availability : OSS's are made available in any kind of system in the world.
6) Cost : It is absolutely free.
7) Freedom : You are allowed to do anything with the software and its products when it comes to      OSS. There are no restrictions imposed.

OSS - How it remains successful?

Most of the OSS is a merged version of the contributed code. This is what that makes OSS of great quality. Anyone can contribute to OSS by creating their code and giving it to the company which is later copied to the main respiratory.

A review of OSS

It is a good idea and it remains like a option for poor people. It can be accessed by anyone. There is no need to pay any money but you can do anything with that software from documentation to video editing all can be done using OSS. The only disadvantage of OSS is that it is not implemented properly i.e. it is not as simple as to download and other software. This is a good idea that does require development.

Thanks!!!
